Here For A Reason

|

Here For A Reason
FROM A MILITARY FAMILY
I’M ONE OF 3 KIDS
I’M HERE FOR A REASON
JUST NOT SURE WHAT IT IS
IN THE MEDICINE CHEST
WHEN I WAS 2 YEARS OLD
I FOUND A BOTTLE OF PILLS
WASN’T QUITE CLOSED
I SWALLOWED ‘EM DOWN
WHEN I TOOK OFF THE LID
I’M SURE I’M HERE FOR REASON
JUST NOT SURE WHAT IT IS
‘ROUND THAT SAME TIME
WHEN NOBODY KNEW
I TOOK A LITTLE DIVE
TO THE BOTTOM OF A SWIMMIN’ POOL
A POOL’S A BAD IDEA
WHEN YOU DON’T KNOW HOW TO SWIM
I’M SURE I’M HERE FOR A REASON
JUST NOT SURE WHAT IT IS
(CHORUS)
I MADE A GREAT ESCAPE
DECIDED TO SERVE
AN EASY CHOICE
THERE’S NO OTHER WORK
I SWORE AN OATH AT SEVENTEEN
DAMNED DETERMINED
TO BE ALL I COULD BE
ON A STILL, DESERT NIGHT
GOT UP TO GRAB ME A SMOKE
WAS JUST ABOUT TO LIGHT UP
WHEN I FELT THE DESERT EXPLODE
A PIECE OF GRENADE
PIERCED THE BOOK WHERE MY HEART WOULDA BEEN
I’M SURE I’M HERE FOR REASON
JUST NOT SURE WHAT IT IS
(REPEAT CH)
(TAG)
WE’RE ALL HERE FOR A REASON
GOD KNOWS WHAT IT IS

THE DARK SIDE OF THE MOON
James Pavlick and Adam Wheeler July 24, 2021
Seven years ago you found me
Your gorgeous browns, stared right through my soul
I knew I had to ask you
I wore you down till you got tired saying no
No I wasn’t used to shining
But when I wake up to your smile
My days are bright, my heart is warm
My Skies are clear, no sign of storms
You rescued me, you changed my life
Showed me your light not a moment too soon
You saved me from the dark side, the dark side of the moon
Your kind of pretty don’t need makeup
It’s inside out and it touches everybody you meet
I once was lost and lonely
Now you and the boys are my world and my family
No I wasn’t used to shining
But when I’m coming home to you every night
CH2
Yeah, baby thanks to you
My days are bright, my heart is warm
My Skies are clear, no sign of storms
You rescued me, you changed my life
Showed me your light not a moment too soon
You saved me from the dark side, the dark side of the moon
You saved me from the dark side, the dark side of the moon

The Way You Love Me

The Way You Love Me
Eric Trinidad-Perez/Pete Sallis
The way you love me is the way I imagined how love should feel
The way you love me calms the storm within my soul
I am so amazed by the plain and simple truth
The way you love me makes me fall in love with you
The way you love me makes the sound of your name on my lips
The way you love me is the echo in my dreams
God help me if ever your touch is one I lose cuz
The way you love me makes me fall in love with you
It’s magical, my heart is full of beautiful that only you can paint
One of a kind, you make me shine, so glad you’re mine
For the rest of my life
The way you love me is my lighthouse on the coast
The way you love me is countless like the sand upon the shore
Your hand among the many is the only one I’d choose
The way you love me makes me fall in love with you
Til my last breath I promise to love you that way too I do cuz
The way you love me makes me fall in love with you

Sign Up Again

Sign Up Again
Jerry Reynolds/Pete Sallis
I raised my hand took an oath at seventeen
I was way too young and dumb enough not to see
The fear in mama’s eyes
When I hugged her goodbye
Daddy drove me to the train in Jackson
With a handshake I was off to see some action
It was all factories in my town
So I had to get out and
See the world in a pair of combat boots
Thru the scope of an M24
Putting my faith in God and my parachute
That they’d answer my prayers once more
After 22 years of ruckin’ and riding the wind
If I could I’d sign up again
I met Chasity in a hallway junior high
I’ve been loving her my whole life
It was both of ours first kiss
Seven years later we got hitched
Raised a couple kids always on the move
That’s what a soldiers wife had to get used to
Putting her dreams on hold
Hanging on and letting me go to
See the world in a pair of combat boots
Thru the scope of an M24
Putting my faith in God and my parachute
That they’d answer my prayers once more
After 39 years of loving my best friend
If I could I’d sign up again
The two loves of my life that started way back when
If I could I’d sign up again

Old Glory

They Boarded a Flight
Old Glory
Turning back time, to 73
They buckled up, pretty soon they touched down
This place to most of us, is hallowed ground
They went to see Lincoln
Took pics on the mall
Paid respects to the greatest generation of all
They knelt at the wall and they took off their caps
For their Vietnam brothers who never came back
58,178
Tried to count them and read every name
Their etched in our memories, in history and stone
Thank You for all that you gave
Welcome Home
Back on Old Glory the stories poured out
Things left unspoken for decades now
Oh, what a healing, to let it all go
Oh, surrounded by brothers who know what you know
58,178
For every Soldier, this moment can’t wait
You’re etched in our memories, let history atone
Thank You for all that you gave
Welcome Home
Their Tongues were tired, and their bodies were sore
And Old Glory she landed and they got up for the door
A Crowd of 200,000 or more
Oh, with tears and great cheers for these heroes of war
58,178
I wish my father could be here today
You’re etched in our memories, our flesh and our bones
Thank You for all that you gave
Forgive us that it comes so late
Welcome Home
Welcome Home
Welcome Home

I Did it For You (Operation Song)
Keesy Timmer/Scott Gossett
10-24-2023
I'm from five generations of men that came before
That Kept the wolf away from the door
From the civil war to Vietnam all the way to me in Aftganistan
We’ve been faithful to the core
When people ask me why I served
I just say these words
I didn’t do for the glory, Just os I could tell the story
I did for it for our country, the red the white and Blue
I did it for my family
I did for my Legacy
In the name of freedom, I did it for you
I did it for the an standing next to me, too
At 19 I answered the call, to be the one that would’ve took the fall
But my god protected me through it all, In Jesus name
And to this day when I’m looking back, I’m grateful for the life I’ve had
Worth All the sacrifice and pain
I didn’t do for the glory, Just os I could tell the story
I did for it for our country, the red the white and Blue
I did it for my family
I did for my Legacy
In the name of freedom, I did it for you
I did it for the an standing next to me, too
When people ask me why I served
I just say these words

High Cotton Road
03:04
|
|||
Well you could say I grew up on high cotton road
But there ain’t no easy life everybody’s got their load
Bright city lights never was my kind of zip code
Can’t never could, never has, never will
Been there, done that, drank the wine, took their pill
Give me bootleg liquor, man let’s fire up that still
They’re drivin’ for that green but that grass ain’t always greener
Livin’ high on the hog but these days that hog is leaner
The cotton ain’t always high out on high cotton road
I’m a Chevy Silverado in a parking lot of Porsches
I’m a four x four and they’re all high on their horses
I’m a country boy at heart and they make their big city noises
Repeat Chorus
Solo
They can keep their fine wine
I’ll be all right with my corn rye, muscadine, and moonshine

The Past 96 Years
04:32
|

The Past 96 Years
My old high school principal made a deal with me
Take an early graduation go and sail the 7 seas
That’s how I joined the Navy way back in WW2
I got my diploma while working in the boiler room
I’m not saying I’m a fighter ain’t saying I was tough
With a chip upon my shoulder and a pair of boxing gloves
Everybody wanted to take, me made me wonder what was up
Seems my buddy had bet the whole ship
I’d kick anybody’s butt
Life is full of boxing rings
And I’ve lived to see some crazy things
In the past 96 years
It’s gone by fast 96 years
Had some laughs made a few friends
Shed a few tears
On this path in the past
96 years
Operation “Cross Roads” happened back in 46
They tested bombs leaving war planes welded to the ship
After 1 week we went in to check the damage and the cost
When we returned to shore I set the Giger Counter off
I heard the doctor say, well, there’ll be no kids for you
If that Doctor only knew I’ve had more than just a few
In the past 96 years
They go by fast 96 years
So, have a blast make a few friends
And don’t follow your fear
Blaze a path may you last
96 years
I’ve loved a wife and 8 good children my grand and great grand children
Been a pilot built a house or two
I’ve been a seaman and a boxer, I became an engineer
Under this sun there ain’t much that’s new
When I stop and I look back
Can’t believe I’ve done all that
I thank God for the past 96 years

Son of a Soldier

Son Of A Soldier
Nelson Thorp/Pete Sallis
My father was a pilot in1944
Shot down in Germany a prisoner of war
Kept barbed wired in at Stalag Three
Til’ Patton’s tanks rolled in and set him free
A small town hero he was so beloved
And I’m the luckiest kid to be raised up a
Son of a soldier
Standing tall and proud
Trying to fill his boots
And never let him down
He showed me the way
With faith and family
Every battle I face
I can defeat
Cuz I’m a stronger, braver, and bolder
Son of a soldier
I was a 101st battalion No Slack
Dropped off in ‘Nam where the smell made me gag
Seven hundred souls would call me Mom
Cuz I supplied them with socks, water, even bombs
Priority was mail before body bags
And going thirty three days without a bath
Cuz I’m a
Chorus ^
So remember the farm boys who made it home
And for all my grandkids so they’ll always know
Wapella's champions spirits still soar
Here honor and medals will shine forevermore cuz
He showed us the way
With faith and family
And every battle I face
I know I can defeat
Cuz I’m a stronger, braver, and bolder
Son of a soldier
And every day I get older
I’m still the son of a soldier

The 101st Airborne Screaming Eagles Band
Danny Jaynes with Operation Song / Steve Williams
I made sure they got in
I made sure that they got out
We loaded up the choppers
Headed North or flying South
Just above the tree line
Snipers had a hard time trackin’ us
It was 1968, Viet Nam
We were the 101st Airborne Screaming Eagles Band
A force behind the forces
Kind of like the USO
Man, we wound up in places
Even Bob Hope wouldn’t go
A band leader and 1st Sgt
Let me tell ya, I was more than proud to lend a hand, to the
101st Airborne Screaming Eagles Band
We became a lifeline
If only for a short time
There ain’t a song on earth we couldn’t play
Take a soldier to a safe place
Brighten up a face
For a moment make the war go away
Flying in to “Firebase Bartley”
On a hilltop it was perched
They took some “amo boxes”
And somehow built a small white church
We knew for sure that day that they would all be safe in the palm of God’s hands
With the 101st Airborne Screaming Eagles Band
We played California Dreamin’
And I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry
Little Bit of Soul, Ticket to Ride
But to see a soldier smile
With that look all the while
Knowing all too well that’s the day he’ll die
It’d bring a tear to the strongest man
But brother that was Viet Nam with the
101st Airborne Screaming Eagles Band
